The other way of getting UHF Magazine...
On line at MagZee
Right now, and cheaper too
Have no fear, the printed edition of Ultra High Fidelity Magazine is not about to vanish, now or in the foreseable future. But there is now another way to get UHF, right on your computer.
How does it work?
The electronic edition is an encrypted PDF, readable with the free Adobe reader software, plus the MagZee free plugin. The first time you open an electronic magazine on your computer, you will need to enter your user name and your password, and the plugin will check the MagZee site to verify that you've paid for the issue. From then on, you can open that issue on that computer offline any time you like.
What if I want to read it on more than one computer?
MagZee allows you to authorize an issue on two computers...a desktop and a portable, say. You can ask to deauthorize a computer and authorize another.
Is MagZee cross-platform?
Yes. It works on Windows and on Mac OS X and OS 9. There is no Linux version yet, though one is expected.
Can I get a look at the way it works?
Certainly. Just go to the MagZee site, and click on "demo." You'll then have the option to download the special plugin (double-click on it to install it on your copy of Acrobat Reader or Adobe Reader). Then download the demo magazine, which consists of several pages from an actual issue of UHF. Notice that you can navigate the pages as you would any PDF document. The demo includes live links. Click on a title in the table of contents, and you'll be whisked to the corresponding article if it is included in the demo. Click on an ad, and go right to the advertiser's Web site.
What does it cost?
An individual issue costs $4.30, in Canadian dollars, and all applicable taxes included, no matter where in the world you live. You can subscribe for 13 issues for $43 (still in Canadian dollars, and still tax-included), or $21.50 for six issues.
What's the process for buying an issue or subscribing?
Just go to the MagZee site and click "Buy Now." You can order one or more individual issues, and/or a subscription, as you desire. Payment is by VISA or MasterCard, and is always in Canadian dollars, with any applicable sales tax included. Once your order is processed, you'll get an e-mail telling you to go the appropriate link to download your issue.
Can I convert my existing subscription to an electronic one?
Yes you can. To do it, go to our own secure order page, or phone us (450-651-5720, officer hours Eastern Time). We will of course adjust the number of issues in your subscription to reflect the lower cost of an electronic subscription.
Will all the back issues be made available electronically?
Not all of them, if only because older issues can no longer be opened with modern software. However we will gradually make several older issues available, working backward from issue No. 70.
Will the electronic edition eventually replace the printed issue?
No, the printed issue will continue into the indefinite future, and we know many readers will prefer it, The MagZee edition is an alternative for those who want UHF faster...or cheaper.
