CLASSIFIEDS SECTION NOW CLOSED
UHF has pretty much always had a classifieds ad section. It was run as a service to our readers, and it was obvious that the space the ads took up in the magazine brought us far less income than a display ad would.
When we moved to the Web in 1996, the classifieds came with us. And it worked well. We maintained it in part because we too have things to sell, and the section always worked for us.
But the world has changed. There are now countless sites offering free classifieds. The result is that our classifieds section has been used more and more by stores and businesses that found the subsidized classified rates cheaper than our (or anyone's) regular advertising. We have, therefore, with regret, killed the section off.
For the businesses that used it, we will set up, as of the next issue, a business card-sized ad, lower in cost than a regular display ad, and quite affordable even for small companies. The business cards will appear both in the print issue and on line.
